Impressed with the Work of Our Peers

I attended the final formal gathering under WA Transformation Grant of Regional Organizing Initiatives (ROI). I was there to provide information about CVAB's SAMHSA Grant that is known as our REACH project and recruited to provide an overview of healthcare reform and how to be involved.

The part of the day that was most imressive was when it came time for the groups to report out what they have accomplished. The four groups that were present were able to stretch the monies they received to connect with, train, and support so many of our peers across the state...it was inspiring.

I hope the stories can be collected, shared and preserved so we can see how the efforts of the few led to positive changes for the many. We owe a great thanks to those who pioneered the efforts as a part of the T-grant.

I began the day telling the story of Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz gang...the point being we all have strengths and need to recognize the strengths in others...the brain, heart, courage and ability to build a caring community was clearly evidenced through the ROI particpants.

Lets continue to find ways to support and encourage one another's good work...we must succeed.

  1. We appreciate you reviewing our blog and offering your opinions about how we should be doing things.

We posted events in early February at the request of one of our members who worked on the events. Posting the events does not automatically mean someone attended. Anyone attending the events was welcome to post their impressions, counts, etc. but there was no reporter sent and no one chose to post anything.

As to the event reported on in this post, the details weren't important. If interested, I think they were posted on the site of one of the four organizations that is a social network, www.nwseedsofchange.org.

The CVAB Online Blog is for initiating dialog and if no one responds, we move on; we're doing okay by providing people choices including to participate here, or not. We appreciate being given the opportunity to do what we choose without being told what to do.

The three sites we use (cvabonline.com, cvabonlineblog, and facebook) plus nwseedsof change are the vehicles we choose to use to communicate the things we want the way we want including grant information.

You can find more info at our main site that is linked on the right. As of today, we've not drawn any money down on the grant (the grant is $70K per year for 3 years). We've presented to those in the state that are adult peer groups about our plans to open 3-5 self help recovery centers. We'll be sharing more of this around the state in the coming 2 months and will announce specifics through all our internet voices.

I am sorry if there has been confusion about this blog. It may not meet your needs or wants and it will be up to you if you continue. Either way, thanks for following and best wishes to you.
